California Franchise Law Exam Scheduled for October
California is the only state in the Union that has a franchise legal specialist certification issued by its bar. However, in order to obtain the franchise law certification, an applicant must be practicing franchise law and pass the state’s one-day examination.
This year the exam will take place on Tuesday, October 24, in either of the two testing centers in Oakland and Pasadena, California. The exam will not be offered again until 2019. The Office of Admissions with California’s Department of Legal Specialization states that those who are eligible to register need to have been practicing franchise and distribution law since at least January 2016. The office states that the last day to register is October 2.
In an email to this journal, Adrian Galang, senior administrative assistant of the Department of Legal Specialization for the State Bar of California, wrote: "Special funding this year allowed for reduced fees, and registration is only $350 for both laptop and handwriting options for the essay portion. This is significant savings over the normal rate."
